This temple became popular when the greatest spiritual leader of all times Ramakrishna Paramahamsa started worshipping the gods .Rani Rashmoni purchased the land from the loanowner Mr. Hasti, and dutifully began constructing the temple without any discouragement of how much time it will take to build the temple and finally it took 8 years to build the unique temple at an estimated cost of 9 lakhs incurred on the temple. The kali temple, built in unique traingular style, is 46 (forty six) feet square, with temple and its adjoining areas stand on 25 acres of land the height going over hundred feet high has more lenght than width is standing on a high base build in 1800s with a line of stairs. Ramakrishna Paramahamsa was a great spiritual preacher who was considered an incarnation of god by many of his disciples and followers, and is considered as such by many of his devotees today also in this modern world . The pure Ganga flows from beside the temple with immense pureness. The whole temple is build so beautifully that we can see to the east there are twelve Shiv temples and seeing towards the north is a Radha-Krishna temple. A sort of courtyard can be seen behind the Shiv temple. A type of a temple constructed by a famous king named Mana Singha. King Mana Singha had modified the small hut into a small temple in the earlier sixteenth century. The temple attracts the worshiper goddess Kali, another avatar of goddess Durga. The goddess Kali, another avatar of goddess Durga is considered as the goddess of Shakti (power).

The temple of Kalighat is one Shakti peethas of India. There are total fifty one Shakti peethas in all over India where one or more than one body parts of sati (wife of lord Shiva) has fallen. The reason that lead to such a destruction and devastating act of sati is that, sati was angry on her father because her father (king daksh) did not invite lord Shiva in the famous dakhya yagya that took place at sati’s patent place. She was very annoyed with this behavior of her father and ran to her to ask that why he did not invite Shiva and in reply to this question of sati, her father started saying such things about lord Shiva which sati could not take and she attempted suicide. By seeing this lord Shiva got very angry and he started to destroy the universe. To stop this tremendous anger (Pralay) of Shiva, lord Vishnu had to apply his wheel called sudarshana chakra. The sudarshana chakra segmented sati’s body into pieces. Then different parts of her body feel at different parts and in Kalighat her toe of right foot is dropped. The place of Kalighat is immensely populated and alive (full of life). The place of Kalighat is over occupied by the foreign cultures and immigrants. Human being has an eye for natural beauty. Be it the lofty and snow-covered mountains or dense forests or raging waves smiting upon the seashores, we always enthralled by the charm of the nature. For the nature-loving people, Digha is a place worth visiting thousand times.

The place, situated in east Midnapore district of West Bengal, is one of the most fascinating and favorite sea beaches among the travelers. Being only 187Km. away from Kolkata, the place offers an affordable recreation for middle class families. Most probably it is one of the reasons that people of almost all economic classes, snowed under the pressure of crammed work schedules find Digha the most suitable place to get relived of stresses and reenergized.

If historical past is to be excavated, the place got its first mention in one of the letters written by Lord Warren Hastings to his wife. In this letter, Hastings alluded to the place as ‘Brighton of the East’. It is a little known fact that Digha was originally named as Beerkul. The charm of the place was so captivated an English tourist namely John Frank Smith that he decided living here. It was after independence, Digha was developed a beach resort under the patronage of then chief minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. He was greatly influenced by Mr. John and promoted Digha as a nice tourist spot and with the time the place has come to be known as the most renowned beach in West Bengal.

This place is a small town but is dotted with too many hotels. Most of them are lined up along the main road. As digha is always bustling with chattering and other activities of the travelers, so one should not expect the place to be calm and quiet. Still, being away from the hackneyed daily lives and enjoying the vast expanse of water in front of you will be enough to refresh your mood. You can witness the rage of the waves thrashing along the boulders and sprinkling the droplets of water around. You can also take pleasure in swimming but take care to dive into the water when it is low tide only.

The sea comes at its vibrant best at the time of sunrise and sunset. The sun going out of or diving into the sea splotching it with the red colors all over is a spectacular view worth framing into mind for good.

Apart from taking delight into swimming and watching the scenic beauty, travelers can set out for sight seeing too. They can drop a visit to new Digha, an extension of the old one. Shankarpur Fishing Harbor Project, only 14Km. away from Digha is also a beach resort drawing attention of the tourists. As the place is yet to earn the fame like Digha, so the virgin beach of Shankarpur offers a tranquil ambience for the visitors.

Another place that offers a gentle sea-view is Junput. The lines of caesarian trees add to the beauty of the place. A research department has been built-up here by the State Government Fisheries Department.

Tourists can also squeeze time to visit Chandaneshwar, Lankeshwari and Kapal Kundala Temple near Kontai.

So, the tourist buffs, pack your bag and baggage, visit to Digha, enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of the place and come with a refreshingly enthusiastic mood.

Sundarbans: Wild Call for the Adventurous

The Sundarbans, a part of the largest delta formed by the rivers Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna, is famous for halophytic mangrove forest and also the Royal Bengal Tiger. The soil of the delta is very much fertile and is being used by the local inhabitants for producing food for a prolonged period of time. The meaning of the name ‘Sundarbans’ is ‘beautiful Jungle’ in Bengali language. There is many a view regarding how the place got its name. The most accepted among them is the name of this place is derived from the Sundari trees abound in the area.

Sundarbans, the largest estuarine forest is situated at the feet of West Bengal and stretches beyond the boundary of India and penetrates through Bangladesh. To the south the forest kisses the feet of the Bay of Bengal and to the left meets the river Baleswar. 4000Km. of the total coverage of 10000Km. of this dense forest belongs to India. The place was declared as the UNESCO world heritage site in the year 1997. The place is dotted with several tidal channels and 56 islands of impregnable mangrove forest. The place has been contributing a lot to maintaining the ecological balance by providing a safe canopy of shelter to many wild species. The greed of the poachers, laxity in night vigils and constant destruction of forest by the locals for subsistence are collaboratively attributing to the endangerment of the wild lives of this place. Several stringent measures have been taken to protect the enriched wild habitat by the government of India and still the proper implementation of laws and rigorous punishment for the culprits must be adopted to put a stop to the decline of the several species in this arena.

The place is also ideal for the enthusiastic bird-watchers. Jaldapara is one such sanctuary that reflects the timely and heartiest effort to preserve the fascinating wildlife of India.

Nestled at the foothills of Eastern Himalaya in Alipore, sub-division of Jalpaigudi in West Bengal, the place offers a picturesque and riverine beauty. The spot is situated on the bank of river Torsa and covered with tall grasses all over. The sprawling grassland imbues the place with a soft touch of green that is quite fascinating and soothing for one’s eyes. The Jaldapara Forest was declared as sanctuary in 1941 with the sole intention of preserving one-horned rhino, an endangered animal.

Apart from the rare one-horned rhino, it is the safe abode of many an animal. The place is almost a heaven for royal Bengal tiger, sambhar, barking deer, wild pig, bison and many others. Persons with profound interest in ethnic culture, watching the traditional customs of this tribe will be a mesmerizing experience.

The enthusiast and adventurous tourists may squeeze time to drop a visit to the Chilapata Forest to see the ruins of a fort, estimated to be thousand years old and of great historical and archeological importance. Believed to be built up in the times of Gupta dynasty, it rustles up the unheard tunes of the golden moments of the Gupta period when ancient India was flooded with milk and honey. The place has been transformed into a safe abode of poisonous snakes and other reptiles due to lack of preservation. Another attraction of such forest is a bleeding tree which oozes fluid of blood-like color of human being. According to local people, these trees are unique and can not be found in any other places in the world. Unravel the virgin beauty of Baranti

In this age of rate race, babies get saddled with loads of home tasks while professionals are almost snowed upon hectic work pressure day in and day out. All of us crave for an escape from this monotonous life. It is not always necessary to belt out a goodly sum to go for a holiday trip to rejuvenate mind and health. There are so many unknown places that can boast of their scenic and virgin beauty. Baranti may be such a tourist hunt for your rejuvenating escape.

Located in Purulia district in the state of West Bengal, this place offers beautiful natural landscape you have yearned to enjoy to your heat’s content and serenity you have longed for. The easiest way to go to Baranti is to take a train from Howrah station and get down at Asansol. You have to then travel by a local train to Muradi which is not more than 20 Km. away from either town. It will be an exaggeration to say that many resorts and hotels have sprouted up there. As Baranti is still not crowded with travel buffs, therefore, hotel industry has not felt any urge to put up establishment there. There is only one resort to accommodate the travelers and if you inform them about your arrival beforehand, they will arrange for a pick-up facility from Muradi station.

The place has so far remained undisturbed and therefore can give you the long cherished escape from hustle-bustle of city life. Baranti is a small village being cuddled by the Mother Nature. Nestled in the hilly range, the place dangles an offer for trekking for the adventurous people. The Gorongi hill has earned popularity for short trek. The place has a huge water reservoir. A dam has also been built up there that shoots up from the foot of the hill. You will find several shrubs and trees there to lend the hilly place a tranquil and mysterious look.

You may take a leisurely stroll in the nearby villages. If you are an ardent lover of natural beauty; you should travel on foot rather than hiring a car from cottage. The long meandering roads with long stretches of paddy field on both sides will really be a visual delight for you. If you drop a visit at Baranti in autumn, watching dew drops being kissed by the morning sun and glittering by the roadside, you will get too mesmerized to put the magnificent beauty in words.
The transparent water of lake against the backdrop of hill is really soothing for eyes. Especially, at the time of sunrise and sunset, when the tranquil water of lake gets imbued with reflected rays, it is a heavenly beauty that will make you spellbound.

If luck favors you, then you may get to see wild boars, deer and wolves which may ensue from the denser part of jungle. While options are galore to feast your eyes on such a nearby spot, lack of luxurious hotels and modern facilities is pardonable.
